Welcome to the Marshall Street Blog!

Hello and welcome to the newest addition to Marshall Street Studios’ Media: The Blog Post.

Here, you’ll find information on all things music. We’ll be talking weekly about gig, song, and album reviews, How-To’s, and also shedding some light on the Melbourne music industry. I’m so excited to get started writing these posts, and to learn a thing or two along the way.

But who am I, and what is Marshall Street Studios?

My name is Alex Carpi.

I’m a 23-year-old singer, writer, and pianist, and I’ve lived in Melbourne my entire life. I’ve seen over 100 artists live – some twice – and I know a good live act when I see one. In my spare time, I work on shaping my own career as an independent musician. As I write these posts, I’m also taking part in the Marshall Street Studios Artist Coaching program, where I hope to take the next steps as an artist.

Marshall Street Studios is a recording studio, rehearsal space and artist hangout in Bundoora, Melbourne. Founded by Bennett Ferguson, the studio is Melbourne’s first music and production house to offer memberships, and assist artists with their music from conception, through to release and distribution. Marshall Street Studios also offers social media consultations, band bookings, and PR services. And if you’re not into the written word, check out the YouTube Channel or Podcast for tips and tricks on being an independent artist.

But who’s behind the magic? That’s Ben and Stu.

Ben has roots in Hip Hop production and performance, having been a part of Melbourne groups The D.Y.E and Otis High, where he took to the stage as “DJ Marshall”. The D.Y.E had multiple releases, and toured nationally alongside the likes of Seth Sentry, Remi, Allday, and more.

Ben’s focus has since shifted to artist management and promotion, following his desire to help fellow artists create and build their brand.

I almost went into cardiac arrest when I found out that Ben’s full name was Bennett, and not the better known ‘Benjamin’, but I’ve since come to terms with it, and so should you.

Stu Watts is our resident sound engineer, with over 15 years of experience in the music industry. He has played drums and guitar in countless bands, even touring alongside Real Friends, The Story So Far and Heartsounds to name a few. Since completing his Advanced Diploma in Music Industry Skills, Stu has worked closely with several bands as a freelance producer, combining his experience as an artist to help them get the most out of their studio time.

Finally, we’re lucky enough to have Laydee Lisa

With some 30 years’ experience in the music industry across radio, touring, journalism, and publicity & PR. Some of her credits include being featured in Rolling Stone, managing the tours of Snoop Dogg, K-Ci & JoJo, Horace Brown, and working with Michael Jackson, Prince, and Paul Peterson in a publicity and PR capacity. What a line up!

So buckle in and put the kettle on, because I am so excited to start writing for Marshall Street, but most importantly, writing for YOU! Drop me a line in the comments, or send me an email at alex@marshallstreetstudios.com. I’d love to meet you as we all embark on this journey together.

See ya next week,

Al.
